Mr. Clay clay–marble putty FINISH No. 9 is intended for use only on Mr. Clay decorative clay plasters when performing various artistic decorative techniques. The product is natural and vapor-permeable, absorbs liquids, and is therefore suitable only for dry rooms where there is no direct contact with water, dirt, or grease. To improve durability and performance, additional varnishing is required.
There is no separate color palette for Finish No. 9 clay–marble putty — when selecting colors, use the decorative white clay plaster color palette as a reference. The shades are not identical, but very closely related. To be certain about the color, we recommend purchasing a 500 g sample pack for testing.
When ordering clay plaster with your chosen color, you will receive the base-color clay mixture and a jar of pigment. Color pigments are produced specifically according to your order and therefore cannot be exchanged or returned.

IMPORTANT!
The mixture can be used with all pigment colors, but keep in mind that bright shades such as 1_B, 2_B, 3_B, 2000_B, etc., may be more difficult to mix thoroughly. During the decorative process, small pigment grains may appear—especially when using red pigments. For this reason, we recommend more careful mixing methods than usual:

- Pour the entire pigment jar into the water through a fine sieve, pressing it through with a spoon.

- Mix the full pigment amount with a small amount of water and strain it through a dense fabric/cheesecloth.

USAGE SYSTEM
Mr. Clay clay–marble putty FINISH No. 9 is designed for use only on Mr. Clay decorative clay plasters to create various decorative techniques.
The full decorative system can be applied on:

Classic / finishing clay plaster;

Gypsum / cement / lime plaster;

Plasterboard;

Gypsum fiber boards;

Cement, wood-fiber, and other boards intended for plastering or skim coating;

Previously skim-coated and painted surfaces;

Stoves and fireplaces coated with classic Mr. Clay plaster.
MIX PREPARATION
Pour 5.5–5.7 L of water into a 25 L bucket, then add the entire pigment jar (if tinting is desired). Mix thoroughly with an electric mixer, and while stirring slowly, pour in the full 10 kg package of FINISH No. 9 clay–marble putty.
Allow the mixture to soak for at least 1 hour, then mix again before decorating.
COMPOSITION
A water-dilutable mixture of white clay, marble, and technological additives.
The components of the mixture are not harmful.

COLORS
FINISH No. 9 clay–marble putty can be tinted with any mineral pigment from the Mr. Clay color palette. However, keep in mind that the colors will not be identical to the palette because the mixture does not cover surfaces evenly like plaster or putty.
When working with decorative techniques, the final color will be approximate—therefore, always create a small test sample from start to finish, including the chosen varnish.
USAGE TIME OF PREPARED MIX
Keep the prepared clay mixture covered in a cool place. It is recommended to use it within 1–2 weeks.
APPLICATION / TOOLS
The mixture can be applied with a trowel, a putty roller, or mechanically. It is applied using stainless steel trowels with a top handle or standard putty tools.
For surface finishing, use tools suitable for the decorative technique — PVC floats, shading tools, sponges, etc. The choice of tool may significantly affect the final appearance.
APPLICATION THICKNESS
FINISH No. 9 clay–marble putty is applied in one or two layers, depending on the decorative technique. It is applied very thinly — approximately 0.5 mm.
Avoid direct sunlight and drafts during application.
DRYING TIME
Depending on the room temperature, humidity, and the size of the decorated area, drying may take 4 to 24 hours.

Is it necessary to varnish clay plaster walls?
There is really no need to varnish clay plaster walls — it all depends on your lifestyle and your specific needs.
If you want completely natural and vapor-permeable walls, don’t use any varnish. Simply read our recommendations on how to clean and repair natural walls — trust us, they can stay beautiful and clean for many years.
If you need durable, wet-washable walls — for example, in high-traffic areas or commercial spaces — be sure to varnish the surfaces with Mr. Clay Varnish No. 1.

What is the difference between Light Sand 13 and White Decorative Clay Plaster?
They differ in their base colors: one is light sand–colored, and the other is warm white. When tinted with the same pigments, the resulting shades are very similar. The biggest difference is that Light Sand 13 dries more slowly during application and creates slightly more shading, which is why it is currently the most popular mixture for finishing large wall and ceiling areas.
White decorative clay plaster is an excellent choice if you need a white base, softer shading, or if you’ll be doing highly compressed decorative techniques. But in most cases, both mixtures can be used for almost any technique.
Does clay plaster crumble?
Clay plaster “breathes” — it absorbs and releases moisture, which makes it very beneficial for maintaining a healthy indoor microclimate. If the surface is not varnished, it remains slightly more sensitive to mechanical impact, but it does not crumble or smear. An occasional loose marble grain falling off is completely normal for a natural product.
If the surface feels noticeably dusty or smudgy when touched, it means something was not done quite correctly during the finishing process. In that case, you can try a few additional steps: brush off the loose marble grains with a dry brush or clean palm, or thoroughly moisten the wall and compress the entire surface using a stainless-steel trowel to harden it.
Of course, you can always varnish the wall to fully stabilize the clay plaster if vapor-permeability is not essential for your wall finish.
Can you plaster all walls and ceilings with clay plaster?
Yes, most people choose to finish all the walls and ceilings in their home with clay plaster. The result is incredibly beautiful and cozy! The walls create soft, warm shading — just enough to add charm, but not so much that it becomes overwhelming. You’ll never get tired of it. On the contrary — as our clients say, you’ll want to come home just because of your walls and won’t be able to look at flat-painted ones anymore! :)
Can clay plaster be used in the bathroom/shower?
You cannot use clay plaster or this varnish in the shower area, near the bathtub, or in any zone with frequent direct water contact and high steam concentration. These areas are not suitable for clay plaster or its varnish.
In the bathroom in general:
For other walls, ceilings, or areas near freestanding bathtubs or sinks — where there is no long-standing water and no intense hot steam — clay plaster can be used. In bathrooms, we recommend varnishing clay-plastered walls for practicality. If you know you will be careful and protect the surface, varnishing is not strictly necessary.
Ceilings do not need to be varnished.
